I Wanna Be a Cowboy
I wanna be a cowboy, and you can be my cowgirl… Who remembers that song from Boys Don’t Cry in 1985? Make sure to add this song to your playlist as it’s the perfect anthem for your cowboy themed event.
To capture the essence of the rugged, adventurous spirit of the wild frontier, start with a classic cowboy hat, crafted from durable felt or leather, with a wide brim. The hat should bear the weathered marks of countless adventures, accentuating its authenticity. Choose a well-fitted, rustic button-down shirt adorned with intricate embroidery or a subtle paisley pattern. Pair it with a sturdy leather vest, decorated with fringe and concho details. Opt for well-worn denim jeans with a straight cut, and a thick leather belt with a large, ornate belt buckle. There are many different styles of cowboy boots out there and finding the perfect pair to complete your costume won’t be difficult. To add the finishing touches, accessorize with a bandana tied around the neck, a bolo tie, and a leather cuff braclet. Sleeve garters and lasso attached to the hip, and a shiny set of spurs will spur you to embrace your inner cowboy!
Saloon Girls
Enter any saloon in the Wild West era and you would see Saloon Girls amonst the tables of gamblers and cowboy folk. The Saloon Girl costume exudes an alluring and dramatic charm. Dramatic, bold red lips, rosy cheeks, and defined eyes accentuated by dark eyeliner and false lashes. The centerpiece of the Saloon Girl is a vibrant, corseted bodice adorned with frills, lace, or sequins, enhancing the curves. The billowing, knee-length skirts were made of luxurious fabrics like satin or silk, accentuating movement. Long gloves reaching up to the elbows, fishnet, or patterned stockings accompanied by high heeled boots reflect an element of sensuality and poise. Glamorous feather boa’s, feathered headpieces or wide brimmed hats embellished with flowers or ribbons, choker necklaces and dainty earrings tie a Saloon Girl look together.
The Gambler
Always an interesting character, the Gambler would wear a tailored, three-piece suit, exuding an air of daring and sophistication. Fitted and slightly long overcoats with wide lapels, adorned with a pocket watch in rich shades of black, deep bergundy, or royal blue. Crisp white dress-shirts with a stand up collar and a black bowtie adds a touch of elegance. The trousers are well-fitted adn usuall matching color to the suit. Completing the ensemble are plished leather boots, a wide-brimmed hat, and fingerless gloves. Don’t forget a deck of cards, or a cigar holder.
Barkeep
Dressed for practicality and style, the Barkeep’s ensemble was a rought yet refined charm. The Barkeep would typically wear a vest, crisp off white or beige long-sleeve shirt with the sleeves kept up with sleeve garters. A bolo or bowtie or even a string tie looks great. Denim or sturdy canvas trousers were often tucked into well-worn leather boots. Many Barkeep’s wore an apron to protect their clothes. Always finish wild west era costumes with a wide-brimmed hat.
Notorious Outlaws
It is important to express how serious it is to carry any replica guns of any kind. This website doesn’t promote the use of any replica weapons. If you must use as a prop, make it look as fake as possible. Cardboard, that looks like cardboard in an emphasized manner, is the safest way to utilize any weapon props in the public arena.
That being said, Notorious Outlaws made the wild west wild! Long duster coats made of canvas or leather, chaps, well-worn denim jeans and a holster around the hips. The desperado often wore a bandana around his nose and mouth to conceal his identity and protect his lungs from the dust kicked up by galloping horses. Some famous outlaws to note are Jesse James, Billy the Kid and Wild Bill Hickock.
